The human nature of all humans in the world is same and it is built in nature of human being that he loves good qualities such as justice, equality, truthfulness etc. said Shahed Menon, Indian Academician and a Propagator of Interfaith & Communal Harmony through lectures, presiding to an Online Webinar on ‘Unity in Diversity”, organized by Indian Muslim Association Kuwait, to commemorate 73rd Indian Republic Day on January 28, 2022.
The keynote speaker also stated that the preamble of constitution of India guarantees unity in diversity. Referring from principles of different religions he conveyed that “Service to Humanity” is the best service. By few references from an Indian court decision and quotations from Swami Vivekananda, he emphasized that hate fetches only short gains.
Mr. K. Chinamaya, President of Kuwait Kannada Koota, Mr. Suresh K.P., Prominent Indian Community Leader in Kuwait, Mr. Shatish Chandra Shetty, President of Art of Living Kuwait, and Dr. Thomas Koshy George, Joint Cultural Secretary Indian Doctors Forum Kuwait were the “Guests of Honor” of the Webinar.
All the dignitaries expressed their views on the topic and highlighted that the principles of unity in diversity shall be respected to live peacefully, people are able to stand unitedly despite of huge diversity and due to the Indian constitution, which ensures Justice, freedom, equality and secularism for all citizens of India. There is no other country in the world with so much diversity and where people are living peacefully with respect to each other. It was conveyed also by the guest speakers that we should take care of our nation and spend life together with compassion, love, and joy. Just like music becomes harmonious when different strings of guitar are stroked, similarly patriotism, diversity, love, joy and respect in combination give harmony to our great nation.
The keynote speaker appreciated the people away from their home country celebrating the Republic Day and their contribution towards the development of the resident country. He said that India is a land of huge diversity in religion, caste, culture, food but tied unitedly as Indians and living together for centuries.
He explained the meaning of unity in diversity as “Unity without uniformity” and “diversity without fragmentation”. By quoting verses from Quran and giving examples from nature he emphasized that the Galaxies, Planets with different energy but there exists a harmony. An atom with different constituents having different energy which bind matter to create huge energy.
One of the important areas for strengthening unity in diversity, he said that we should respect each other’s religions, have interfaith understanding and adjusting the differences, work for the welfare of mankind and these are also the requirements of globalization in the present time.
He said that liberty lies in the heart of human being and emphasized to resolve to protect our constitution and live with peace, love and harmony. COVID-19 has refreshed in our mind various lessons on humanity that we should follow noble principles & values by practicing them and not just a lip service.
The program was followed by a Question & Answer Session. It was appreciated by an overwhelming attendees and audiences representing different Indian associations and diaspora in Kuwait.
